The Bangladesh Institute of
International and Strategic Studies (BIISS) hosted a roundtable discussion
titled “Economic Diplomacy: Bangladesh Perspective” at the BIISS
Auditorium.
Dr. Khalilur Rahman, High
Representative of the Honourable Chief Adviser on the Rohingya Problem and
Priority Issues, Government of the People’s Republic of Bangladesh, attended
the event as the Guest of Honour.
The discussion featured
presentations by distinguished experts from academia and BIISS. Dr. Mahfuz
Kabir, Director, BIISS, presented a paper titled “Economic Diplomacy:
Trade Perspective,” highlighting the role of trade diplomacy in advancing
Bangladesh’s economic interests and expanding its global market presence.
Dr. Mohammed Helal Uddin,
Professor, Department of Economics, University of Dhaka, delivered a
presentation titled “Economic Diplomacy: FDI and 4IR in Focus,” examining
strategies for attracting foreign direct investment (FDI) and leveraging Fourth
Industrial Revolution (4IR) technologies to strengthen Bangladesh’s economic
competitiveness.
Dr. Rashed Al Mahmud Titumir,
Professor, Department of Development Studies, University of Dhaka, presented “Economic
Diplomacy: Discussion on ODA,” focusing on the role of Official Development
Assistance (ODA) in supporting Bangladesh’s sustainable development and its
graduation from the Least Developed Country (LDC) category.
The roundtable brought together
academicians, policymakers, ambassadors, government officials, researchers, and
eminent scholars, who actively participated in the discussion and shared their
valuable insights. Participants emphasised the growing importance of economic
diplomacy in achieving Bangladesh’s national development goals through enhanced
trade, investment, development cooperation, and strategic international
partnerships.
