New Directions for FOIP and BIG-B on 03 November 2024
The Bangladesh Institute of
International and Strategic Studies (BIISS), in collaboration with the Research
Center for Advanced Science and Technology Open Laboratory for Emergence
Strategies (ROLES), Tokyo University of Foreign Studies (TUFS), organised a
dialogue titled “Bangladesh in Transition: New Directions for FOIP and
BIG-B” on 03 November 2024, at the BIISS Auditorium.
The dialogue examined
Bangladesh’s evolving strategic position in the changing regional and global
geopolitical landscape, with particular emphasis on the Free and Open
Indo-Pacific (FOIP) vision and the Bay of Bengal Industrial Growth Belt
(BIG-B) initiative. Participants discussed the implications of these
frameworks for Bangladesh’s foreign policy, economic development, regional
connectivity, maritime cooperation, and strategic partnerships.
The event brought together
policymakers, diplomats, academics, researchers, government officials, and
distinguished scholars from Bangladesh and Japan to exchange perspectives on
emerging geopolitical trends and opportunities for enhanced bilateral and regional
cooperation. The discussions highlighted the importance of strengthening
Bangladesh–Japan relations, promoting sustainable infrastructure development,
expanding economic collaboration, and fostering a rules-based, inclusive, and
prosperous Indo-Pacific region.
The dialogue concluded by
reaffirming the value of continued academic exchange and policy dialogue
between BIISS and TUFS in advancing mutual understanding and supporting
evidence-based policymaking on issues of regional and global significance.
