Outcome and Way Forward" on 01 August 2012
The Bangladesh Institute of
International and Strategic Studies (BIISS) organised a panel discussion titled
“Rio+20 Conference: Outcome and Way Forward” on Wednesday, 01 August
2012, at the BIISS Auditorium.
The panel discussion reviewed the
outcomes of the United Nations Conference on Sustainable Development
(Rio+20) and examined their implications for Bangladesh’s sustainable
development agenda. The deliberations focused on key issues including green
economy, sustainable development, environmental governance, poverty reduction,
climate change, resource efficiency, and the institutional framework required
to achieve long-term sustainable development.
The event brought together
policymakers, government officials, diplomats, academicians, researchers,
environmental experts, representatives of development organisations, and
members of civil society to exchange views on the commitments made at the
Rio+20 Conference and the challenges of translating them into national policies
and programmes.
Participants highlighted the
importance of integrating economic growth, social inclusion, and environmental
protection into Bangladesh’s development strategy. They also emphasised the
need for strengthened international cooperation, enhanced financial and
technological support, effective environmental governance, and greater
stakeholder participation in implementing the outcomes of the Rio+20
Conference.
The discussion concluded by
reaffirming Bangladesh’s commitment to sustainable development and underscored
the importance of evidence-based policymaking, regional and global cooperation,
and coordinated national efforts to address emerging environmental and
development challenges while advancing the country's long-term development
goals.
