In-house Seminar: Energy Cooperation in the Indo-Pacific: Bangladesh Perspective

This in-house seminar explores the dynamic landscape of energy cooperation within the Indo-Pacific region, with a specific focus on Bangladesh's strategic perspective and potential role. As the Indo-Pacific emerges as the global economic center of gravity, its energy demand is skyrocketing, creating a complex web of opportunities and challenges related to energy security, trade, and sustainability. This discussion will analyze the key trends shaping regional energy cooperation, including the growing trade in Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG), the push for cross-border electricity grids, and collaborative investments in renewable energy technologies.

From Bangladesh's perspective, the seminar will assess how the country can best position itself within this evolving architecture. It will examine the strategic imperatives for diversifying energy sources and supply routes to enhance national energy security. A key focus will be on Bangladesh's potential to act as an energy bridge between South Asia and Southeast Asia, leveraging its geographical location and developing infrastructure, such as LNG terminals and power plants. The discussion will also cover the geopolitical dimensions of energy cooperation, including the role of major powers and the importance of maritime security in protecting vital sea lanes of communication through which energy resources are transported. Furthermore, the seminar will address the imperative of aligning energy cooperation with climate goals, exploring avenues for joint research and development in green hydrogen, offshore wind, and other clean energy solutions. The objective is to formulate a cohesive strategy for Bangladesh to proactively engage in Indo-Pacific energy initiatives, ensuring sustainable economic growth and strengthening its strategic position in the region.
