Planning a National Strategy on 06 January 2026
BIISS–CRRIC Roundtable on Pathways to Rohingya
Repatriation and Sustainable Peace in Myanmar: Planning a National Strategy
Tuesday, 06 January 2026 | BIISS, Dhaka
The Bangladesh Institute of
International and Strategic Studies (BIISS), in collaboration with the Conflict
and Resilience Research Institute (CRRIC), organised a roundtable discussion
titled “Pathways to Rohingya Repatriation and Sustainable Peace in Myanmar:
Planning a National Strategy” on Tuesday, 06 January 2026. The roundtable
aimed to facilitate an informed policy dialogue on the prospects, challenges,
and strategic options for the safe, voluntary, and dignified repatriation of
the Rohingya population to Myanmar, alongside broader efforts to promote
sustainable peace and stability in the region.
The discussion brought together
policymakers, academics, researchers, humanitarian practitioners, and security
analysts who examined the evolving political and security situation in Myanmar,
regional geopolitical dynamics, and the humanitarian implications of the
protracted Rohingya crisis. Participants emphasised the importance of a
coordinated national strategy for Bangladesh that aligns diplomatic engagement,
regional cooperation, international advocacy, and humanitarian considerations.
Particular attention was given to the roles of ASEAN, neighbouring countries,
and major global actors in creating conducive conditions for repatriation.
The roundtable also highlighted
the need for sustained international pressure, accountability mechanisms, and
inclusive peace processes within Myanmar to address the root causes of
displacement. Participants underscored that meaningful progress on Rohingya
repatriation remains inseparable from broader peacebuilding efforts, political
reconciliation, and guarantees of citizenship, safety, and rights. The event
concluded with a shared view that Bangladesh’s national strategy must be
forward-looking, multidimensional, and grounded in both regional realities and
international norms.
