Country Lecture on “Strengthening Ties: A Forward Look Between Bangladesh and Italy”

Background:

Bangladesh and Italy share a longstanding and friendly relationship rooted in mutual respect, cooperation, and shared interests. Italy has been one of the major European destinations for Bangladeshi migrant workers and a valued development and trade partner. Over the years, both nations have engaged in multidimensional cooperation covering trade and investment, labor migration, cultural exchange, defense, and sustainable development.

In the context of global economic transitions, regional security dynamics, and climate challenges, there is immense potential to further deepen and diversify the Bangladesh–Italy partnership. Italy’s expertise in technology, innovation, green energy, and industrial modernization complements Bangladesh’s dynamic growth trajectory and development aspirations under Vision 2041 and the Bangladesh Delta Plan 2100.

The proposed Country Lecture on “Strengthening Ties: A Forward Look Between Bangladesh and Italy” aims to discuss the evolving contours of bilateral relations and explore new pathways for collaboration in trade, investment, technology transfer, and people-to-people exchange.

Objectives:

The main objectives of the lecture are to:

  1. Examine the current state and future prospects of Bangladesh–Italy relations.
  2. Identify priority areas for bilateral cooperation, including trade, labor, education, and technology.
  3. Highlight opportunities for joint initiatives in green transition, renewable energy, and sustainable industrial growth.
  4. Promote dialogue between policymakers, diplomats, academics, and business leaders to strengthen mutual understanding and partnership.
  5. Support Bangladesh’s efforts to expand its diplomatic and economic engagements within the European Union context.

Expected Outcomes:

  • Enhanced understanding of the strategic importance of Bangladesh–Italy relations.
