Bangladesh Institute of International and Strategic Studies (BIISS) organised a Country Lecture Series (CLS) event titled “From Malé to Dhaka: Strengthening Bangladesh-Maldives Bilateral Cooperation” on Thursday, 10 April 2025 at the BIISS auditorium. Her Excellency Ms Shiuneen Rasheed, High Commissioner of the Republic of Maldives to Bangladesh graced the event as the Guest Speaker. Md Obaidul Haque, Associate Professor, Department of International Relations, University of Dhaka delivered a presentation for setting the tone of the program. Dr Neyamat Ullah Bhuiyan, Senior Secretary, Ministry of Expatriates’ Welfare and Overseas Employment, Government of the People’s Republic of Bangladesh was the Special Guest for the event.

Ambassador A F M Gousal Azam Sarkar, Chairman of BIISS, moderated the event as the Session Chair. The event began with a welcome address from the Director General of BIISS, Major General Iftekhar Anis, BSP, awc, afwc, psc, PEng. After the presentation, titled “Bangladesh-Maldives Relations: Revisiting bilateral relations and avenues of cooperation” for setting the tone of the program, the Guest Speaker High Commissioner Ms Shiuneen Rasheed delivered her valuable remarks. An open discussion session ensued following the Guest Speaker’s remarks. Thereafter, the Special Guest delivered his insightful remarks on the topic. Finally, the Session Chair delivered the concluding remarks.

Senior officials from different ministries, ambassadors, high commissioners, former diplomats, senior military officials, media, researchers, academics, and students from various universities, as well as representatives from different think tanks and international organisations, attended the event and enriched the discussion with their valuable opinions, comments, suggestions, and observations during the open discussion session.
