Bangladesh–China relations: political and economic dimensions.
The Bangladesh Institute of
International and Strategic Studies (BIISS) organised a roundtable discussion
titled “Bangladesh–China Bilateral Relations” on Tuesday, 27
September 2011, at the BIISS Auditorium.
The roundtable brought together
diplomats, policymakers, academicians, researchers, and strategic affairs
experts to exchange views on the evolving political, economic, and strategic
dimensions of Bangladesh–China relations and to explore new avenues for
strengthening bilateral cooperation.
The discussions highlighted the
longstanding friendship and comprehensive partnership between Bangladesh and
China, with particular emphasis on trade and investment, infrastructure
development, connectivity, defence cooperation, education, cultural exchanges,
and collaboration on regional and international issues of mutual interest.
Participants also examined emerging opportunities for expanding cooperation in
economic development, technology transfer, capacity building, and regional
connectivity.
Speakers underscored the
importance of enhancing strategic understanding, maintaining regular policy
dialogue, and promoting people-to-people exchanges to deepen mutual trust and
broaden the scope of bilateral engagement. They observed that stronger Bangladesh–China
cooperation would contribute not only to the socioeconomic development of both
countries but also to regional peace, stability, and shared prosperity.
