Bangladesh Institute of International and Strategic Studies (BIISS) organised a roundtable discussion titled “SAARC Nearing 50: Challenges and Way Forward” on 03 December 2024 at BIISS Auditorium. The Guest of Honour for the event was His Excellency Ambassador Mohammed Golam Sarwar, Secretary General of SAARC.
The roundtable session was chaired by Ambassador AFM Gousal Azam Sarker, Chairman, BIISS. Major General Iftekhar Anis, BSP, awc, afwc, psc, PEng, Director General of BIISS, delivered the welcome address. Two presentations were delivered in the session. Dr Razia Sultana, Senior Research Fellow, BIISS, presented on “SAARC Nearing 50: Strengthening Regional Unity for a Brighter Future” and Mohammad Shamsul Haque, Former Additional Secretary of SAARC and BIMSTEC Wing, Ministry of Foreign Affairs delivered a presentation on “Way Forward to Revitalising SAARC: Outlining the Directions”.
Following the presentations, an open discussion session allowed further engagement. The discussion facilitated a robust exchange of ideas in which policymakers, experts, and other stakeholders participated and enriched the event by sharing their valuable questions, comments, suggestions, and observations during the session.
